I am sure both the Mississippi State Bulldogs and Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets rather be playing in the College Football Playoff, but you can probably say that about every single team that did not make the CFP.
Regardless, this is a great matchup. The Bulldogs will come in as the favorites for the simple fact that they play in the SEC, and are ranked higher, but don’t count out the Yellow Jackets just yet.
If Mississippi State can’t contain Georgia Tech’s elite running offense, things could get very interesting. For the record, it is averaging 333.6 rushing yards per game, which is good enough for third best in the country. The Yellow Jackets are also putting up a beastly 37 points per game. Oh yeah, they just barely lost to the Florida State Seminoles in the ACC championship, who will be partaking in the playoff.
With all of that said, Mississippi State was the best team in college football at one point this season. Two losses have clearly killed that, but still. If QB Dak Prescott does his thing, the Bulldogs could go off in the scoring department.
Mississippi State may have finished the season off on a very disappointing note — lost two of three — but this team can beat anyone in college football. Although I expect Georgia Tech to give it a game, I am predicting the SEC representative to win the Orange Bowl.
PREDICTION: Bulldogs 42, Yellow Jackets 28
