The Belk Bowl features one of the better matchups of the bowl season (outside of the New Year’s six and playoff games) with the Georgia Bulldogs (9-3) and Louisville Cardinals (9-3) set to square off on December 30 in Charlotte, North Carolina. Both squads will be looking to get that prestigious win No. 10 in this one in what should be a heavyweight slobber-knocker. Here are five things to know before tuning in.

Todd Grantham was the defensive coordinator for Georgia for four years before he suddenly left that job to get a raise on the Louisville staff last summer as their new DC. Needless to say, this reunion should be “interesting” as one of the Georgia GA’s tweeted when the bowl game was announced. Will familiarity give Louisville an edge or give Georgia that extra motivation to run up the score a bit?

When Georgia lost Todd Gurley (twice) this season, there was panic in Athens about the Bulldog running game. Turns out, those fears were unfounded as freshman running back Nick Chubb proved he’s up to the task of carrying this offense, rushing for 1,281 yards (No. 2 in the SEC) and 12 touchdowns on 186 attempts. Chubb is the future of Georgia football and the future is now.

No disrespect to Biletnikoff Award winner Amari Cooper but DeVante Parker is a playmaker. Even missing the first seven games of the season, Parker has been able to lead the team in receiving with 735 yards and five touchdowns on 35 receptions. And he’s done all that IN JUST FIVE GAMES! Look for Parker to be a major part of this game and end his collegiate career in style.

Georgia was arguably the most talented team in the SEC East this season. Louisville had Florida State down 21 points on their home turf. Neither side was able to close things out and come into the game with three ugly losses a piece. Perhaps building some momentum in this game will help them take it to the next level in 2015?

The SEC has generally dominated their ACC neighbors in recent years, which has hurt the national perception of the Atlantic Coast Conference. This season, however, the ACC has risen up and represented themselves well, winning all four rivalry games on the final week of the regular season before Championship Week. Can Louisville continue the ACC’s run at the SEC?
