The Wisconsin Badgers have their new head coach.
According to reports, the Badgers are set to hire former Pittsburgh Panthers coach Paul Chryst as their new, well, coach. Although I am sure it is reassuring to the school, fans, players and everyone involved that they no longer have to search for a new ball coach, the Badgers should have tested the head coaching waters out a little longer.
After all, they just lost their head coach to Oregon State a couple of days ago. In this day and age, it seems like schools are hiring new head coaches as fast as humanly possible. Although that is probably a good thing, what ever happened to taking your time and waiting to find the best possible fit?
Maybe Chryst, a former Wisconsin assistant, is the right guy for the job, but that remains to be seen. I do know this: Pittsburgh is coming off a 6-6 season. That could either turn into a 7-6 season or 6-7 season depending on how the Panthers do in their bowl game.
The ACC wasn’t even close to being the best conference in college football this year — that is obvious.
This is a great move by Chryst, but we will have to wait and see how great of a move it will be for the Badgers. As for Chryst, he gets to join a powerhouse in the Big 10. You know, a powerhouse that made the conference title game this year (never mind the fact that Ohio State blew them out).
This could turn out to be a great move, but Wisconsin pulled the trigger too quickly on this one.
