When it comes to contrasting styles, few teams differ more than Georgia Tech and Mississippi State on the football field. While the Bulldogs rely heavily on a balanced attack, the Yellowjackets feature one of the more feared running attacks in college football, which should make their meeting in the Orange Bowl one of the more anticipated matchups of the postseason. Here are five bold predictions for their Dec. 31 meeting in Miami.

There won’t be any lack of offense on either side once the two outfits line up for opening kickoff. Both Mississippi State and Georgia Tech average more than 35 points and 460 yards of offense per contest. Considering neither defense is especially stout, expect points aplenty once the contest begins.

While the Yellowjackets don’t carry a single 1,000-yard runner on their roster, they have three players who finished the regular season with more than 700 yards on the ground. Sophomore Justin Thomas is the ringleader with his 965 yards, while Zach Laskey and Synjyn Davis added another 788 and 755 respectively. More of the same should be expected against a Bulldogs defense that gives up more than 400 yards per contest.

The sophomore linebacker does it all for Georgia Tech on defense. Davis finished with a team-leading 108 tackles and four sacks. He’ll need a big performance against an explosive Mississippi State offense that puts up more than 500 yards of offense on average.

2. Dak Prescott will have a huge day for Mississippi State

Prescott had a big regular season for the Bulldogs, accounting for 37 touchdowns and nearly 4,000 yards of total offense. The junior signal caller also has the luxury of throwing to a balanced receiving corps featuring six players who caught at least 20 passes in 2014. Expect an impressive showing from Prescott against the Yellowjackets’ defense.

Georgia Tech finished the season plus-10 in turnover margin, while Mississippi State forced more than a fumble per game on the defensive side of the ball. Whichever team wins the turnover battle seems likely to walk out of Miami with a victory when all is said and done.
