Bo Pelini's Parting Shot At Nebraska Chancellor Was Fair and Funny

You wouldn’t think that Bo Pelini was too thrilled about being fired from Nebraska after a nine-win season and a largely successful tenure as the head football coach. Judging by the way Pelini reacts on the sidelines over some calls, it’s a pretty safe bet that he was fuming mad after receiving his pink slip.

Regardless of the ugly ending in Lincoln, Pelini is already on to his next chapter as the head coach at Youngstown State. While the Penguins aren’t a high-profile team like the Cornhuskers, Pelini is in for a lot less stress as the head coach of a DII program. And apparently, according to comments made in his Youngstown State introductory presser, he’ll finally be working with a president who understands football.

Boom goes the dynamite.

Maybe if we weren’t talking about a school that fired a coach who could have won 10 games this season, that parting shot could be considered a little out of line. But since Pelini clearly got the short end of the stick in Nebraska — who cares? Plus, it’s a safe bet that Jim Tressel, a national championship-winning former head coach, does understand football better than Harvey Perlman.

Love or hate Pelini, it’s clear that Bo knows football. He’ll be successful at Youngstown State, while Nebraska is likely to take some steps back without him. We’ll find out for sure in a couple of years who really knows their football.
