The Texas Longhorns (6-6) and Arkansas Razorbacks (6-6) will face off in the AdvoCare V100 Texas Bowl on December 29 in Houston, Texas, in a matchup of former Southwest Conference rivals. Both programs are in the midst of a rebuilding effort and could use a win here to give their 2015 campaigns off to a fast start. Here are five bowl predictions for how the Texas Bowl will go down.

Swoopes is an athletic quarterback who has struggled to play consistently during the season. He’s basically playing for his job in 2015 in this game and will put his best foot forward to give himself a leg up on the quarterback competition that is on its way this offseason. Look for the sophomore to make plays with his arm and his legs, accounting for three total touchdowns for the Longhorns offense.

4. Both Defenses Will Make Things Difficult

The Razorbacks are allowing just 20.3 points per game this season (No. 15 in the nation) with a pair of shutouts against top 25 teams this November while the Longhorns are giving up just 23.3 points per game (No. 33). Add in the offensive inconsistency of both squads and you have a recipe for a defensive showdown in this game.

3. Arkansas Will Churn Out Some Yardage on the Ground

While Texas has been tough to score against, they give up quite a few yards, particularly against the run. Arkansas, with run-oriented Bret Bielema leading the way, have averaged 220.3 yards per game on the ground with a pair of 1,000-yard rushers in Jonathan Williams and Alex Collins. This dynamic duo paired with a physical offensive line will wear on the Longhorn front over four quarters and accumulate some very good yardage.

Both teams are looking to build off their modest success in 2014 and carry some momentum into the offseason. Both teams play tough defense and have a physical running attack. Add in a classic Southwest Conference rivalry and you have a recipe for a game that will be tight right down to the wire.

Arkansas has wins over LSU and Ole Miss with close losses to Texas A&M, Alabama, and Missouri. Texas hung tough with UCLA and Oklahoma and was close with Baylor for most of the game. Getting a win in this bowl game will help push one of these teams into the conversation for conference titles next season, whether it be the Razorbacks in the SEC or the Horns in the Big 12.
