Top 10 NFL Draft Prospects in Cotton Bowl

Cotton Bowl
Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

Every year, the Cotton Bowl is one of the premier games of the college bowl season. This year, the matchup pits the No. 5 Baylor Bears and the No. 8 Michigan State Spartans. The field will be oozing with NFL talent on New Year's Day, and here are the top 10 NFL prospects.

Mike Sadler is probably the best punter in college football. If a punter is taken in the 2015 NFL Draft, then Sadler will most likely be the first one drafted.

9. Levi Norwood

Levi Norwood struggled with injuries early on in the year, but he came on late in the season. It's always difficult to examine Baylor wide receivers because of Art Briles' system, but with the recent success of Kendall Wright and Josh Gordon in the NFL, it's hard not to take a flier on Norwood, especially in the late rounds.

Outside of Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota, the quarterback draft class is a weak one. Bryce Petty could use the Cotton Bowl as a major jumping off point to becoming the third quarterback taken overall. He's an athletic quarterback who can make all the throws, but will the up-tempo, spread offense translate to the NFL?

7. Tony Lippett

Tony Lippett is the top receiver for quarterback Connor Cook. Lippett is projected to go in the middle rounds of the NFL Draft, and if he is able to put on some weight, he could be a steal for a team in need of a wideout.

6. Jeremy Langford

Jeremy Langford is a horse. He's a guy who can handle 25-30 carries per game and not get worn down. He's amassed almost 1,400 yards this season to go along with 19 touchdowns.

5. Antwan Goodley

The top Baylor wide receiver will certainly be a player to watch on New Year's Day. He may be 5-foot-11, but he's a thick 220 pounds and an explosive playmaker. He will be a hard receiver to pass up in the NFL Draft.

4. Shilique Calhoun

One of the top defensive linemen heading into the draft, Shilique Calhoun should be gone within the top two rounds. He is that good, and he has that much potential. He's an athletic speed rusher who can wreak havoc in the backfield. In today's game, pass rushers like Calhoun are important to any defense.

3. Kurtis Drummond

A free safety prospect, Drummond is one of the best college safety prospects in football. He is part of a stout Michigan State secondary which has been the best unit in all of Division 1 over the past two years. His size may be the only issue in the NFL as he will have to get bigger to cover the best receivers in the game.

2. Trae Waynes

Trae Waynes is the complete package at cornerback. With the NFL becoming a passing league, physical and fast cornerbacks are more of a necessity now. Darqueze Dennard was taken in the first round last season, and I would expect Waynes to be one of the first corners taken in this year's draft.

Shawn Oakman is a physical freak. The 6-foot-8 defensive end has the potential to give quarterbacks nightmare for years to come in the NFL. He has all the potential in the world, and he should be gone within the first 15 picks of the NFL Draft if decides to declare.
