The Oregon Ducks are expected to miss a huge weapon on offense in the College Football Playoff National Championship as wide receiver Devon Allen will most likely be forced to sit out the game with a knee injury.
For anyone familiar with Oregon, this is a devastating blow to the Ducks offense. Allen ranked first on the team in receptions (41), first in touchdown catches (seven) and third in receiving yards (684). He is by far one of the most explosive offensive players Oregon has, which means they could be facing all sorts of issues against an Ohio State Buckeyes team that is riding high after their awe-inspiring win over the No. 1 ranked Alabama Crimson Tide.
In theory, the Ducks have so many offensive tools that Allen’s absence should not prevent them from accomplishing their ultimate goal, which is to win the first ever College Football Playoff National Championship. And, there might be some truth to that, especially how it was a complete team effort that dismantled the Florida State Seminoles in the Rose Bowl. Still, Allen is a huge part of the game plan, which is why it is very discouraging that there is a good chance he will be unable to suit up.
Allen suffered the knee injury during the opening kickoff of the Rose Bowl. The way he grabbed his left knee as he fell to the ground suggested a torn muscle while he was making an aggressive cut. Allen was also seen being taken into the locker room on a wheel chair with his leg heavily wrapped in ice.
