It’s too early to call, but too long to wait on a rumor so alluring. According to Tom D’Angelo of the Palm Beach Post, Braxton Miller is considering transferring from the Ohio State Buckeyes to the Florida State Seminoles.

Braxton Miller has already graduated from The Ohio State University, so transferring to Florida State — let alone anywhere else — is nothing more than a paper-signing formality. The Oregon Ducks and Ole Miss Rebels appear to be in need as well, and the ensuing courtship of this prospective transfer student could rival that of the competitive coffee table fluff-sessions going on throughout high school recruit’s living rooms in 2015.

If FSU lands this coveted transfer, they may not flounder for long, even if there is a metric-ton worth of subtext attached to the word “considering.”

If Braxton Miller can pull a collegiate Chad Pennington, and make the best of a refurbished labrum, he could re-enter the Heisman conversation when talking heads reheat the stove in August 2015. And if Miller transfers to FSU, the scales will tip so hard it’ll be as if they never tipped at all, with the Seminoles landing right where we left them, a top four team looking to hold rank once again.

Florida State has arguably the most dominant track record relative to their conference among any program in football. Winning 15 ACC titles in 24 seasons, FSU football does what it takes to remain elite and prolific. This is where the discussion on Braxton Miller begins, ends and centers. And this is why Florida State will want Miller more than Oregon and Ole Miss, even if he isn’t the prototypical pro-style quarterback Jimbo Fisher is accustomed to.

It’s only a year — a year to redshirt your true Jameis Winston successor. A chance to take a sniper’s shot at the College Football Playoff when nobody is expecting you to. A season where you’re not hungover from a National Championship, getting to play 12-14 games without the hyperbolic bullseye, where Florida State can just be Florida State, and dominate again right away.

Although this is as speculative as a mid-December Harbaugh-hunt, don’t dismiss it as wishful thinking. Don’t doubt Jimbo Fisher’s capacity to captivate recruits, or in this case, a transfer.
