James Franklin secured several big time commitments for Penn State early in the recruiting cycle, including an array of four-star players. Over the past few months, though, the Nittany Lions have been in a holding pattern. With less than a month remaining before national letter of intent day, here are five players Penn State continues to target for the class of 2015.

The University of Pittsburgh pulled a stunner when the Panthers landed arguably the best player in the state in Whitehead. Penn State appeared to be one of the front-runners for the Central Valley defensive back, and reportedly James Franklin has continued his efforts to flip Whitehead's commitment after Pitt head coach Paul Chryst left the program. Whitehead is expected to honor his pledge to Pitt, but he would be a headliner for the Lions.

Like Whitehead, Bowers is also committed to Pitt, but he appears much more likely to end up with the Nittany Lions. Bowers played a lot of wide receiver at Kittanning, but he's expected to line up at tight end at the collegiate level. Because of PSU's incredible depth at the position, Bowers would be a luxury more than a necessity for the class, but he's clearly caught the eye of the Penn State staff.

3. S Johnny Petrishen

Another Western Pennsylvania standout, Petrishen just recently received an offer from Penn State but could be a key addition to the class. He excelled at safety, wide receiver and punt returner for Pittsburgh Central Catholic, where he helped anchor one of the best defenses in the state. Still uncommitted, Petrishen has also shown interest in Pitt and Virginia, but the Lions appear to be making a late surge to secure his pledge.

2. DT Kamaal Seymour

Seymour wasn't the first choice for Penn State at defensive tackle, but he's become a priority recently. The Nittany Lions have missed out on many of their top prospects at the position, including Christian Wilkins. Subsequently, they have extended an offer to Seymour, who's currently committed to Rutgers. He's expected to at least take a visit to State College, and the staff will likely turn up its effort to land the Brooklyn native.

Miller has been on the Penn State radar for quite some time, and the Lions' interest has likely increased considerably in recent weeks. The Lions already lost defensive linemen in Adam McLean, who decommitted, and Jonathan Holland, who elected to play tight end with the Nittany Lions instead of defensive end. The George Washington High School product has real interest in Penn State, but Miami, among other schools, remains on his list.
