5 Recruits the LSU Tigers Still Hope to Sign

After landing Leonard Fournette last season, the LSU Tigers appear to have another top-10 class this year. With LSU losing several underclassmen to the NFL every season, recruiting players who can contribute right away is extremely important. With signing day less than a week away, here are five players Les Miles hopes to have in purple and gold.

Even without a marquee quarterback, several LSU receivers have made successful transitions to the NFL recently. The Tigers had three receivers drafted in 2014. Two of those receivers, Odell Beckham, Jr. and Jarvis Landry, caught at least 84 passes and combined for more than 2,000 yards. DaMarkus Lodge decommitted from Texas A&M in September and is considering Baylor, Texas, Ole Miss and USC in addition to LSU.

It's very unlikely that Maea Teuhema choose not to sign with LSU. The 6-foot-4, 335=pound guard committed to LSU back in February of 2014. Also, his brother Sione is a defensive end for the Tigers. Sione finished his freshman season with seven tackles and two sacks in nine games. Both Sione and Maea originally committed to Texas, but decided on LSU after Mack Brown left the Longhorns. Oklahoma and UCLA are still holding out hope for Maea.

Another player committed but not signed is WR Tyron Johnson. He committed to LSU during the Under Armour All-America Game. The five-star recruit also received strong pitches from Auburn and Texas Tech. Johnson is an explosive receiver and has a chance to start immediately across from Travin Dural. Coaches often talk about taking care of their home state, and LSU has done so. Johnson is the No. 1 ranked recruit in Louisiana.

CeCe Jefferson was initially expected to sign with the Florida Gators. When Will Muschamp was fired, Jefferson's options opened up. Auburn is the current favorite to land Jefferson, as Muschamp recently became the school's defensive coordinator. Jefferson would have an opportunity to start right away at LSU as the Tigers lost defensive ends Danielle Hunter and Jermauria Rasco to the NFL. He's also considering Alabama and Ole Miss.

As signing day approaches, one of the most intriguing choices that day will come from CB Iman Marshall. The 6-foot-1 corner has narrowed his options to LSU, Florida State, Notre Dame, USC, Michigan and UCLA. The No. 1 recruit at his position is skilled enough to start for any of those six schools as a true freshman. USC is the favorite to land the standout, but late pitches from LSU and Michigan could sway his decision.
