The Indiana Hoosiers were looking for some answers on offense this offseason after seeing the offensive output sputter in 2014 during a 4-8 campaign. Their chances at taking a major step forward took a major hit, however, with the news that sophomore wide receiver J-Shun Harris II will miss the entire 2015 season with a torn ligament in his knee.

Harris was the team’s leading returning receiver this season after Indiana saw three of their top four pass-catchers from 2014 leave this offseason. He posted 18 receptions for 168 yards and two touchdowns as a freshman last season and was expected to step into a much larger role in his sophomore season.

With Harris now out, Indiana does not have a single player returning in 2015 that recorded more than eight receptions last season. Simmie Cobbs Jr. becomes the team’s leading returning receiver after catching seven passes for 114 yards as a freshman in 2014. Tight end Jordan Fuchs becomes the only player returning this fall that recorded a receiving touchdown last year.

The Hoosier passing attack suffered a major setback last season, dropping from the No. 1 passing offense in the Big Ten 2013, averaging 306.7 yards per game, to the worst passing offense in the league last season, averaging just 141.4 yards per game. Quarterback injuries were a major reason for their struggles last fall but the lack of receiving options after the injury to Harris could end up preventing them from bouncing back in 2015.

Losing J-Shun Harris is a major setback for a Hoosier offense that is desperate for playmakers to step up this season. Will the Indiana offense find some answers to get back on track in 2015?
