The Tennessee Volunteers enter the 2015 college football season with high expectations, but they are still working towards being an elite team. It’s hard not to get caught up in the hype and pick the Vols to go all the way to the College Football Playoff, but I’m a bit more realistic than that. Here are five bold predictions for the Vols headed into 2015.

Snubbed from so many preseason honors, Sutton is one of the best defensive backs in the nation. I expect him to be a top three finalist for the Jim Thorpe award. He’s that good.

4. Jalen Hurd Outplays Alvin Kamara

Everyone is talking about Alvin Kamara and his arrival in Tennessee, but I’m not convinced he’s better than Jalen Hurd. Hurd runs like an NFL running back and deserves more carries than Kamara. It’s a good problem to have if you’re Butch Jones.

As optimistic as I am about this Tennessee team, I am still a realist. Oklahoma, Alabama, Missouri, Georgia and Arkansas are all extremely talented teams that should fight hard against the Vols. Remember, this isn’t “the year” for Tennessee; next season is.

2. Vols Beat Georgia, Lose SEC East

Many have the Vols and the Bulldogs as the two favorites in the SEC East, but do not forget about Missouri. Always quietly underrated, I have the Tigers winning the SEC East thanks to a Tennessee upset over Georgia.

After a successful 2015 campaign and the return of most of their star players, Butch Jones and Co. should enter 2016 as a favorite to make it to the College Football Playoff and a top-five team.
