Jovon Robinson had the eyes from all over the country, just waiting to see him play in an Auburn Tigers uniform. But this 2015 season hasn’t quite been what Auburn was expecting. Many analysts predicted the Tigers to win the SEC West this year, and maybe even win it all. But virtually nobody ever expected to start off the season 2-2 with a shaky overtime win against Jacksonville State. Many players have shown to be nothing but disappointing for the Tigers, and this includes Jovon Robinson.

Robinson came into this 2015 season with a JUCO rushing record under his belt. He rushed for 2,387 yards in the 2013 season at Georgia Military College. And with his 6-foot, 230-pound build, there was absolutely no reason to not be excited about him. Gus Malzahn has been known for his powerful rushers. In 2013 and 2014 Malzahn had the SEC’s leading rushers. Any running back who steps up to the plate on Auburn turf is destined to be good, or so people thought.

Robinson came into this spring already competing with a number of Auburn backs. Peyton Barber and Roc Thomas were the two key backs before Robinson’s arrival.

As the season became nearer and nearer, the formerly talented back was still being left as the third string. In the first game of the season against Louisville, Robinson injured his ankle after just two carries. Sitting out the next week against Jacksonville State, Robinson returned to the field to face LSU, where he again got two more carries.

In Week 4 against Mississippi State, Robinson again sat the bench and got zero carries. At this point in the season it’s not the ankle injury that is setting Robinson back, it’s his talent. We know he has talent in there, but apparently not all of it has arrived at Auburn yet. Auburn is at a point in their season where they need somebody to step up and take leadership for this shaky running game, and so far Robinson has not been that guy. This is what makes the five-star recruit one of the most disappointing players of the 2015 season.
