College Football Needs Florida Gators In Top 25

Fans can be very interesting. They claim to love the underdog, but the Nielsen ratings show us that is inaccurate. People tune in to watch traditional powers that we have heard of — indeed, the lowest rated games feature the underdogs. People simply don’t watch. In college football, some teams and home atmospheres are polarizing, and the Florida Gators are one of the best examples of that.

The Gators, for the first time in a while, sit in the top 25. Now, with games against the Ole Miss Rebels, the Georgia Bulldogs, the LSU Tigers and the Florida State Seminoles, they won’t stay there. They’ll lose all of those. They will fall in and out during the beginning of this year and end up as a team with at least four losses — but it’s good to see their current success. Whether you love them or hate them, everyone has an opinion. College football is about entertainment, and we tune in to see teams we hate lose just as much as we tune in to see teams we like win.

The Gators are starting to look like The Gators again (sort of). They’ll keep it close for a while in many of their important games. Again, they’ll lose them all, but they’ll look decent doing it. You can’t give them a slot — they have to earn it. But in the SEC, where the East will never rise to the prominence of their counterparts in the West, Florida should have no problems achieving the glory years of the past.

Whether you love them or hate them, that’s good to see.
