I will preface this story by saying that every single detail in this story is just shocking.

When Thomas Johnson committed to Texas A&M, he was expected to be the next future star wide receiver following Mike Evans‘ footsteps. Unfortunately, things never quite went according to plan once Johnson stepped on campus. He only played in 2012 for the Aggies and caught 30 balls for 339 yards and touchdown, including three catches for 22 yards in an upset win over Alabama on November 10, 2012. Johnson would disappear a few days later.

Finally, Johnson would resurface, but without explanation and he would never play college football again.

On Monday morning, Johnson awoke angry at his life. Not only is he out of football, but he was also kicked out of his home. Instead of seeking help, Johnson allowed his anger to get the best of him and he absolutely snapped.

According to police, the 21-year-old Johnson attacked a jogger at random and hacked him to death with a “large bladed knife.”

“It appears Mr. Johnson picked this victim at random. Absolutely random,” Deputy Chief Rob Sherwin said. “He just attacked him. … It’s just very unusual. It’s quite shocking.”

Johnson walked away from the scene and asked a man a few blocks away if he could use his cellphone to call 911, according to an arrest warrant affidavit. Another man had also called 911 and said he saw a man in a hooded sweatshirt hit a jogger several times in the head with a sword.

Police said Johnson told 911 dispatchers that there was a man on White Rock Creek trail “laying down with a sword in his head and not moving.”

When police showed up to question Johnson at the scene, he told them, “I just committed capital murder.”

There are now words to describe what happened, other then tragic.
