Memphis Welcomes Itself To College Football Playoff Discussion With Major Upset Of Ole Miss

Even after a loss to the Florida Gators, the Ole Miss Rebels were still in the College Football Playoff discussion. And just like that, they are no longer in said discussion thanks to the Memphis Tigers pulling off the ultimate upset.

This could mean a few things: (1) Ole Miss is overrated. (2) The SEC is overrated. (3) Memphis is the real deal.

I’m going with option No. 3.

Memphis absolutely needed a major victory to not only get the nation’s attention, but enter the playoff conversation as well.

The Tigers are now 6-0 on the season and have one huge victory on their resume.

Meanwhile, the Rebels could still win the SEC title, but the playoff is completely out of the question … unless complete madness ensues the rest of the season (which tends to be the case in this sport).

Who knows if the playoff committee will actually grant an AAC team access to the playoff, but it would be hard to deny the Tigers if they actually went undefeated. Stay tuned for that one.

Memphis, welcome to the College Football Playoff discussion.
