Location: Lane Stadium (Blacksburg, Va.)

Line: Virginia Tech (-2)

The Duke Blue Devils (5-1) still don’t get any respect. Apparently a majority of people aren’t seeing the record of the Virginia Tech Hokies (3-4) in this game. They are just seeing the names of the schools and maybe the location. The Blue Devils have arguably the best safety in the country in Jeremy Cash, the defensive back leader in the ACC for tackles behind the line of scrimmage. Cash is a game changer and a future NFL prospect.

The reason Duke is not getting any respect? Their big win against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (2-5) looks less than impressive after Tech has slipped to last place in the ACC. What these so called experts are choosing to ignore is that Duke is tied with Michigan for first in the country in defensive points allowed and fourth in yards allowed per game. Duke is legit.

Virginia Tech, on the other hand, has had some difficult losses. I don’t just mean their opening debacle against the defending champion Ohio State Buckeyes (7-0). Expected starting quarterback Michael Brewer broke his collarbone in that opening game. As a redshirt senior, Brewer has been waiting for his chance for a long time. He hasn’t played since, but he is finally returning on Saturday against the Blue Devils.

Virginia Tech has a good defense as well, ranking in the top 50 in most important categories. This one won’t be a shootout. It will probably be a slugfest.

Prediction: Duke 17, Virginia Tech 13
