Snoop Dogg‘s son, Cordell Broadus, rather shockingly stepped away from football earlier this summer. The 6-foot-3 4-star wide receiver prospect had just committed to UCLA earlier this year and was expected to be one of the Bruins’ prized possessions, but according to head coach Jim Mora Jr., Broadus gave up football to pursue “other passions,” including film.

According to a post on Instagram, Broadus was only playing football because of his dad’s love for the game:

“I played football for my father because I thought that was the only way he would love me [and] be apart of my life. It took me 12 years to realize he loves Cordell Broadus the person not Cordell Broadus the football player. The best day of my life was when I heard those exact words; I love you dad hope you have a great birthday.”

I’m glad that Broadus and his father were able to come to an understanding. There’s no reason to pursue someone else’s dreams, while sacrificing your own. We only get one chance at this thing we call life, and if you spend it trying to please everyone else around you, then you’ve done nothing but waste your time.
