After receiving no love in the first College Football Playoff rankings of the year, the Big 12 — believe it or not — is finally getting some respect. Also, there is a very good chance that this conference actually gets a team into the playoff … or that is at least the hope.
But first, we must all enjoy one of the best matchups of the year, which is Oklahoma vs. Oklahoma State.

The Sooners are coming off of a victory against the TCU Horned Frogs. They have now beaten TCU and the Baylor Bears in back-to-back games. If that doesn’t get the attention of the voters, then absolutely nothing will. If this team beats the Cowboys — which is a road game for the Sooners — Oklahoma might as well jump up to the No. 2 spot in the country. After all, there are not many teams capable of beating Baylor, TCU and Oklahoma State all in a row.
Oklahoma State comes in at No. 11 in this week’s playoff rankings, and it dropped its first game of 2015 to the Bears in Week 12. Even worse, that was a home game for the Cowboys, and I am sure the committee will dock some extra points for that — well, it has.
Two things can happen for Oklahoma with a win: (1) It could make the playoff. (2) Baker Mayfield could capture the Heisman. Sure, football will be played outside of this weekend, but this is the Sooners’ last contest until bowl season.
I have the Sooners winning this game — who’s with me?
PREDICTION: Sooners 49, Cowboys 38
