Predicting the Winner of Every New Year's Six Bowl Game

The College Football Bowl Season is only eight days away and I can't wait. From December 19 to January 2 there is at least one bowl game every day except December 20, December 25 and December 27. Obviously, one of those days is Christmas and the other two are NFL Sundays. If you look at it that way, there's at least one football game on every day during that period except Christmas. Here are my predictions for the New Year's Six bowl games.

The Houston Cougars only suffered one defeat this season and that was to Connecticut, but the Cougars played without quarterback Greg Ward Jr. in that game. Tom Herman has done a tremendous job turning the program around in his first season, but Houston is about to face the best defense they've seen all season. With that stout defense, and stud running back Dalvin Cook, the Seminoles will come out on top 30-21.

The Clemson Tigers have had a tremendous season as they ran the table through the weak ACC conference. That being said, the Tigers have struggled offensively against the two best defenses they've played this season, Notre Dame and Florida State, and while they were able to find a way to win both games, the Sooners present a different challenge because they have an elite offense to go with a strong defense. Taking Oklahoma in the upset, 38-27.

Cotton Bowl: No. 2 Alabama vs. No. 3 Michigan State

Michigan State has had a remarkable season thanks in large part to their defense as they held Ohio State to 14 points and a high-powered Oregon offense to 28 points. Unfortunately for the Spartans, they will be facing the best team in college football in Alabama. The Crimson Tide have been on a serious roll since being upset by Ole Miss on September 19 and that roll will continue with a 27-17 victory over Michigan State.

After struggling offensively all season long, the Ohio State Buckeyes put a pounding on Michigan in the regular season finale. It was impressive to see them play their best game after the turmoil that happened following the loss to Michigan State the week before. Notre Dame took a crushing loss to Stanford to end the season, but Brian Kelly is one of the best motivators in the game and he'll help lead them to an upset of the Buckeyes, 27-24.

Rose Bowl: Stanford vs. Iowa

Iowa had a special season that ended with a crushing loss to Michigan State in the Big-10 title game. While going 12-1 is definitely impressive, the only elite team that they played was Michigan State, and they lost. The Hawkeyes are a below-average team offensively and that will be a major problem as they face Christian McCaffrey and the Cardinal offense. I look for Stanford to emerge victorious with a 31-20 win over Iowa.

Sugar Bowl: Ole Miss vs. Oklahoma State

Chad Kelly is one of the best quarterbacks in the nation that nobody talks about. The junior from Buffalo has thrown for 3,740 yards with 27 touchdowns and 12 interceptions while adding 427 yards and 10 touchdowns on the ground. The Cowboys faced two offenses similar to what the Rebels run in Baylor and Oklahoma over the last two games of the season and lost both, giving up 103 total points. Kelly will lead the Rebels to a win, 48-31.

National Championship: No. 2 Alabama vs. No. 4 Oklahoma

It would be interesting to see how much success Oklahoma's offense would have by spreading out the Alabama defense. The Crimson Tide have only faced two spread offenses this year and they gave up 23 points to Texas A&M and 43 in a loss to Ole Miss. That being said, the Sooners only have one elite receiving option in Sterling Shepard and they want to run the ball with Samaje Perine, which plays into Alabama's hands for a 34-24 victory.
