The New Year’s Six bowls are just around the corner, which means the best matchups of the 2015 college football season are, well, just around the corner.

Before the mega-showdowns go down, let’s do some good old-fashioned score predictions.

Florida State is the clear favorite entering this contest. That tends to happen when a team resides in the ACC, has a player as talented as Dalvin Cook and is also going up against a non-powerhouse in Houston. That said, the upsets are going to happen this bowl season, and the Cougars have only lost a grand total of one game in 2015. They weren’t thrown into the Peach Bowl by mistake, folks.

Prediction: Houston 27, Florida State 24

Clemson enters this big-stage showdown as the No. 1 team in the nation. Here are two more things going for the Tigers: (1) They have Deshaun Watson making the throws. (2) They have yet to lose a game this season. Believe it or not, Oklahoma is the favorite. When a team beats opponents like TCU, Baylor and Oklahoma State all in a row, that tends to happen. Not to mention, this Sooners team is stacked.

Prediction: Oklahoma 42, Clemson 38

The Spartans and Crimson Tide have only lost one game apiece in 2015. Alabama’s loss came against Ole Miss and Michigan State’s defeat came against Nebraska. Both teams are loaded and both teams are not lacking in the quality wins department. For some reason, Alabama is getting quite the line against the Spartans, and there's no need to fight it.

Prediction: Alabama 30, Michigan State 20

Notre Dame can completely crush the Buckeyes’ season with a victory… but we aren’t quite buying into that one. The Buckeyes are the defending national champs. They might not get a shot to repeat, but they still have playmakers all over the field — and a freakishly good defense.

Prediction: Ohio State 35, Notre Dame 24

The hype machine was certainly not surrounding the Hawkeyes, but they proved their worth with a one-loss season. Not to mention, they were oh-so-very close to knocking off Michigan State in the Big Ten championship game, which would have resulted in a spot in the playoff. We might be predicting Iowa to come out on top, but Christian McCaffrey probably has something to say about that one.

Prediction: Iowa 21, Stanford 17

These teams certainly know how to rack up the points, which could result in pure entertainment. Here are two reasons why Ole Miss could win: (1) The Rebels knocked off Alabama, which basically means they are talented enough to beat any team in the country. (2) The Cowboys dropped their last two games of the season. One of those games was a 58-23 shellacking by Oklahoma.

Prediction: Ole Miss 45, Oklahoma State 35
