There’s something about alpha males. They have to win, and they like to prove us wrong. The Clemson Tigers can use the rallying cry on Jan. 11 that they still aren’t getting any respect as the nation’s No. 1 team; and seeing as how Las Vegas currently has them as seven-point underdogs in the National Championship game, that may be true. The truth is the Alabama Crimson Tide are playing on another level. They have a Heisman Trophy winner at running back, coordinators who have either been or are going to be head coaches, and they have an excellent recruiter and leader at head coach in Nick Saban.

The National Championship game on Jan. 11 will be won by Alabama. It will probably have an even larger line than the seven points it currently has by the time kickoff approaches, but the game will be closer than people think. Ultimately, the result will be another championship for Saban and the Crimson Tide. The question is, what’s next?

The Indianapolis Colts are becoming one of the most dysfunctional teams in the NFL, and they have been since the departure of  Tony Dungy. Chuck Pagano has lost the team, Jim Irsay appears to be hard to deal with, and the most memorable moment of this season has been a fake punt that didn’t work. The thought is Pagano will be fired by “Black Monday” and the head coaching position will be available, offering full control to whoever takes it.

If Saban wins the National Championship again, there’s nothing left to accomplish at Alabama. He’s becoming a hot commodity for NFL teams. The only real failure on his resume is with the Miami Dolphins. Pete Carroll had the same issue before returning to the NFL and winning a Super Bowl. Saban seemingly wants to be viewed as a great coach, and not just at the college level. In Indianapolis, he has an owner willing to give a coach control, a weak division and a Pro Bowl quarterback with a lot of years left. This could get very interesting at season’s end.
