Auburn RB Peyton Barber Declared For NFL Draft Because His Mom Is Homeless

By Jason Fletcher

According to CBS Sports, former Auburn running back Peyton Barber is currently the 311th-ranked prospect in the 2016 NFL Draft. Unfortunately, that has him projected to go undrafted as last season there were only 256 selections made in the draft. With his draft grade being so low, many people wondered why he didn’t stay in school, and on Wednesday, he gave a very sympathetic reason why he declared early.

After hearing Barber say that his mother is currently homeless and living with his sister and two kids in an apartment, you kind of understand his decision. He’s betting on himself that he can impress scouts, coaches and executives enough to move up the draft boards and get himself selected so that he can get himself a rookie contract to get his mom a place to live.

While it remains to be seen how successful he will be at the combine and at his pro day, Barber obviously checks off the character boxes that are becoming more and more important for NFL teams.

Here’s hoping Barber impresses and ends up getting himself drafted.
