The 2012 college football season is over, which is quite sad for everyone. However, this does allow to do one thing. It means we can speculate wildly about what will happen in 2013. That is never a bad thing if you ask me. Since it is never too early discuss awards, we are bringing you the pre-season odds on the 2013 Heisman Trophy.
The odds you will see on this list come to you from Danny Sheridan. There is one guy that Sheridan did not have odds for but I added him anyways. Trust me, you will thank me later when it comes to that. There are going to be a lot of names on this list that your recognize and a couple that may shock you. No matter the case, you will enjoy the talents that all of them have.
The 2013 race will have a lot of intrigue because there will be someone going for his second Heisman. Yes, Johnny Manziel is on this list and it will not shock you when you see his odds. I am not sure if a freshman has ever had the media impact that he did in his first season. Will the media hype get to him or will he be able to shrug all that off and become a back to back winner? That is what will make the college season so fun to follow this coming season.
In the list, I hint at the guys you should lay some money on and guys I feel aren't worth the risk. Let us know in the comments who you plan on putting money on. If there is a name that you think should be looked at for the trophy, also let us know. Debate is never a bad thing when it comes to football.
With that, let us get into the list. Gamblers will certainly love this because it's never a bad time to make a wager.
Sheridan didn't give Bridgewater odds, but I'm including him anyway. After his performance in the Sugar Bowl, he is going to get some hype for the award. If you want the chance to reel in some dough, Teddy is your guy next season.
Clowney put the world on notice during the Outback Bowl. The soon to be junior is going to be a force next season. If he can build off of his 2012 year, he just might be the first defensive guy to bring home the award in a long time.
Yeldon put on a show against Notre Dame but I would be wary about his odds. Alabama always has talents in the backfield, which means someone might steal some carries from him. If that happens, he just might not get the raw numbers that are needed.
Boyd decided to come back for his final season and it should be a good decision for him. If the Clemson defense can help the offense out once in a while, they could run the table. Would a spot in the championship game be enough to get Boyd to New York?
T-Magic has improved immensely since his freshman year. I just don't think his team is going to be good enough to garner the attention he needs. Then again, if his passing continues to improve, it could be all over for teams in the Big Ten.
Another guy that came back one final push, Murray has the chance to solidify himself as a top draft pick. If he has a good year, he should be able to garner enough support to get to the banquet. He is going to need to bump up his numbers across the board to win the thing, though.
Lee is going to need to have a quarterback step in to get the ball to him. If that doesn't happen, there is no chance that he makes it. He is going to get his numbers, but he is going to need outstanding ones to force his way to New York. I would be wary about laying a lot of money on him.
DAT could be done in by his offensive system. There is a decent chance that he won't get enough touches to wow all the voters. If he gets the lion's share of carries and breaks five or so returns for touchdowns, he will be in strong contention for the award. Then again, he could end up with amazing averages but not the overall stats to get him there. High risk, high reward.
I feel like Miller was the forgotten guy in 2012. Maybe it was because his team wasn't eligible for a bowl game, but he made tremendous strides. Urban Meyer will make the most out of him and I would be very comfortable in betting on Miller to win the trophy. In fact, he would be the favorite if there wasn't a chance for a repeat winner.
There will be two lines of thinking on Manziel. The first group will think there is no way he can duplicate his freshman year as teams will have film on him to figure him out. The second group will see a guy who adjusted well all year and still has tons of untapped potential.
Would I be surprised if Manziel brought home his second straight Heisman? I would not. However, I also wouldn't be on him. I feel like teams are going to see what he does and adjust accordingly. He'll still have good numbers, but not good enough.
