Nebraska’s season may not have gone quite as everyone had hoped for, but Lavonte David is receiving all the awards he deserves.

A transfer student out of junior college, many claimed David was too small to not only play in the Big XII, but then the B1G 10 after Nebraska had officially made the move. All he had done at Nebraska was make big play after big play, leading the team in tackles for two consecutive season, and moving into the top 5 all time on the Nebraska tackling charts.

David has been named to numerous All American teams. These include:

Walter Camp 2nd Team
AFCA 1st Team
CBSSports.com 1st Team

David is currently 5th in Nebraska’s history in total tackles. At 274 tackles, he needs only 3 more to move into 4th, while 14 would move him into 3rd. David is currently averaging 10.5 tackles per game in his career, which is currently the 5th highest active number in college football today.

This season, David has 122 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, 2 forced fumbles, 2 recovered fumbles, and 2 interceptions. Not bad for a guy who people thought was too small.

David’s season has been magnificent. Although this is a team game, he started the comeback against Ohio State with his forced fumble and recovery on Braxton Miller. He gave Nebraska a crucial win at Penn State when he stopped Silas Redd on 4th down and 1 in Nebraska territory.

David’s NFL prospects look to be pretty good. Coach Bo Pelini thinks that he would be a good outside linebacker at the next level. Though David only plays at 225, he plays at about 250. David gets low, and drives the offensive player back.

Nebraska is going to sorely miss Lavonte next season. Although he only played last season because of injuries at the position, he stepped in and made an immediate impact. I wish Lavonte great luck at the next level.
