With signing day come and gone, for the most part, Nebraska did very well. They picked up quite a few recruits that will help them out in the long run, but when the biggest fish came to the table to announce his decision, the Huskers came up short.

It’s hard to imagine how the Big Red were to come up short with Andrus Peat, especially as his older brother Todd is already a Husker. Many, including myself, believed that family bond would secure this bid easily. Instead, we are all lef to wonder how this happened.

This is a big bummer for Husker nation, as Peat was expected to come in right away and compete for a starting job with an offensive line that though bringing back many starters, is going to have to replace three key members.

Instead, Nebraska has to figure out what went wrong and not let that happen again. Peat was supposed to solidify this as perhaps Bo’s best class since coming to Nebraska.

Now, Nebraska must look at this as a good but not great class. They definitely missed out.

From here, the Husker offensive line will know look to players within the program to fill their needs for another year. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great thing, but when a lineman like Peat is around, you don’t go out and replace him with your best player on the roster. It won’t work.

Nebraska has already begun preparing for the 2013 recruiting class, and this will also need to be a strong recruiting class if the Huskers want to stay near the top of the B1G 10 conference. This is not the first, nor will it be the last battle the Huskers ever lose. But I’d like to start seeing more W’s than L’s on the trail.
