Huskers 2012 Recruiting Class: First Look Part 1
Nebraska got the job done for the most part last Wednesday with their recruiting class, winning some key battles but unfortunately losing a few others. The Cornhuskers got some help at much needed positions, though they may not have been the best athletes of the bunch.
Nebraska addressed several needs with grabbing another quarterback, a few linebackers, and other skill position players that the team needed. Here’s a quick rundown of some of the Huskers, and what we can expect.
Jared Afalava (LB) - the top player coming out of Utah, linebacker Jared Afalava is a young player who could excel in this system. He’s quick, strong, and has a never quit attitude. If he can master the system quickly, there’s no doubt he could be starting coming fall. However, he will have plenty of competition to beat out.
Leroy Alexander (CB/WR) - Alexander is a crossover player who will either play cornerback or wide receiver depending on what shakes out during camp. At 6’1, 188 lbs, he needs to put on a little bit of weight before he will see the field, but no matter where he plays, it is good for the Huskers.
Zaire Anderson (LB) - Anderson may be the most field ready player in this class, having already played two seasons at junior college. He’s following in the footsteps of David, not joining the program until the summer. He was the number one rated linebacker coming from juco, and though does not have quite the skills of Lavonte, expect those to come around. Anderson is going to make the field this year, and a big impact is imminent.
Tommy Armstrong (QB) - Nebraska added much needed depth to the cornerback position with the addition of Armstrong, a duel threat quarterback from Texas, rated as the number five quarterback. He has the ability to run, but he’s a better passer than Taylor and will challenge him for the starting role.
Thomas Brown (LB) - Brown probably will not make the field this fall, barring injury to someone else, but he was add immeasurable depth and learn the system. Rated as the number 17 inside linebacker, he very easily could take over the duties from Anderson in two years. He has great closing speed which allows for him to make up for poorly chosen routes to the ball.
