Patriots trade RB Laurence Maroney and sixth-round pick to Broncos for fourth-round pick

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the New England Patriots have traded running back Laurence Maroney and a sixth-round draft pick to the Denver Broncos in exchange for a fourth-round pick in the 2011 NFL Draft. Maroney was selected by the Patriots in the first round of the 2006 NFL Draft.
With an already crowded backfield, rumors swirled during the preseason about the possibility of Maroney being traded—especially when New England decided not to use him in two games. The Patriots’ roster already consists of Fred Taylor, Kevin Faulk, and Sammy Morris—so a move like this makes sense considering Maroney has never lived up to his true potential.
Maroney has started just 14 of 45 games during the first four years of his NFL career and has yet to cross the 1,000 yard mark in a season. Now, Maroney gets a fresh start with a Broncos team that has already suffered numerous injuries at running back this season.
