5 Free Agents that New England Should sign
I doubt New England has the cap room to sign all of the free agents that I mention, but I wanted to throw a few key names out there. This is my top 5 list of players that the New England Patriots need to sign.
1. Nnamdi Asomugha CB Nnamdi is an elite man to man lockdown corner. Devin McCourty recorded 7 interceptions. With a corner like Asomugha teams will be forced to throw to Asomugha or McCourty who recorded 7 picks last season.
2. Cullen Jenkins 3-4 RE The New England Patriots need a 3-4 right end who can play the 5 technique. Cullen Jenkins is that player. Jenkins would be a great fit in New England’s 3-4 scheme giving New England a deadly 3-4 defensive line with Jenkins at right end, Ty Warren at left end, and Vince Wilfork at nose tackle with some young guys who would provide depth on the defensive line.
3. Matt Light LT The Patriots may want to bring back Matt Light for insurance at left tackle. If Nate Soldier struggles in training camp Light could start. If Soldier does well than Light could move inside to left guard.
4. Matt Roth 3-4 LOLB Roth played well for the Browns at times in the Browns 3-4 scheme last season. He would be a good fit in New England who could fill that role that previous 3-4 left outside linebackers provided. Mike Vrabel and Rob Nikovitch both played the 3-4 left outside linebacker role for New England.
5. Marion Barber RB I’ve always felt that Marion Barber was an underrated back. New England won’t sign him, but the Dallas Cowboys just released Marion Barber so this is a golden opportunity to add another back to New England’s backfield.

Why would a team with 3 young first round picks and a great undrafted find at CB sign Asomugha? They wouldn’t. That would be wasteful, stupid and completely unlike Belechek… unless he comes CHEAP.
Why would a team with a fine 1st and 2nd down RB and a respectable 3rd down RB who just spent 2 2nd round picks on a scat back and a between the tackles 1st and 2nd down RB need to sign a washed up RB from the Cowboys? If your answer is “They wouldn’t cause they already have 4 young and fairly talented RBs plus some other injured vets they may yet bring back” then you’d be right!
Your selections are absolutely fundamentally lacking the understanding/knowledge of the Pat’s team roster and the movement the Pats are likely to do based on past events.
2-shay Daniel! Cullen Jenkins would be the only one on that list they not only should get, but clearly IMO “need”.
Long before today and hearing about the BIG Albert Haynsworth singing( for next to nothing & which is a short signing by the way), the other they need would be Malcom Floyd WR from The S.D. Chargers. We have no deep threat weither actual pass and throw or for a streatching and decoy mean’s… Maclcom Floyd is both of those.
Also, Matt Light would be a no Brainer for a re-sign. The Rookie is rough around the edges, young, has no true specifc skill that stand’s out as well as also being a little small. The best that could be said about him even way before the draft was that he’s moldable, and also was a tight end like Matt Light was before converting. Not signing Light for another 1 or 2 year’s & then he retires as one of the Patriot Great’s would be absolutley stupid! Unless of course…they already have a bad-ars replacment in play and one that will be signed for at least 2 if not3 years so Nate Solder can A/. Bulk-Up, and B/. Get Skill specific!
As far as Nnamdi is concerned, sure he would be the lock up for the pat’s back field with McCourty for year’s to come…..but I hear he not only has writting, producing, acting, music, and all sort’s of “STUFF” in mind, but he’s got a Le-bRON jAMEs ESK GLOBAL i CAN DO IT ALL & IT’S ALL ABOUT ME MENTALITY TO HIM? He’s Questionable. He mainley play’s one side only from what I hear also. He’s a press man guy primarily-which is fine, but if he’d be willing too be more and show more of a TEAM guy mentality instead he “could” work, but it’s debatable. Forget the Music, Acting, Producing, and extra Crap and focus soley on SUPERBOWL TITLES…(Although I’d love to see it, and would also like to keep him away from the Jets….Yikes! Nnamdi & Revis together would be a thorn in the Patriot’s side…. A BIG THORN.
Thank you very much for the constructive comments along with sharing your opinion on the Patriots. I knew that adding Barber would be foolish to a certain extent before I wrote this. I’ve just always had a lot of respect for Barber as a player, but New England really doesn’t need him. I was originally going to put Ray Edwards there and now I look foolish for not sticking to my instincts.
I’m not sure if New England needs Jenkins now that they added Haynesworth. New England’s secondary is fine, but I want Asomugha in case the Jets try to get him. I don’t want to face a secondary with Revis and Asomugha on it twice a year possibly 3 times if New England keeps meeting the Jets in the playoffs.
I’ve always thought Malcolm Floyd was overrated as a possession receiver. Floyd may work out as a deep threat red zone target who can stretch the field vertically.
