Gilmore played mostly press-bail or off-coverage in college. He doesn’t have enough strength to knock receivers off their routes, doesn’t have great transition from his backpedal, and doesn’t have great speed. His best fit is in the zone defense. He knows assignments and is good at stopping the underneath route. He has good hands and is elusive after the catch though he doesn’t have breakaway speed. He seeks out contact and is able to evade most blocking receivers in run plays. While he has good quickness, his slight build could be a problem at the next level. Gilmore is an aggressive tackler who is best coming downhill and hitting with a low shoulder. He always looks for the strip and man-up tackling can be a problem.
