Are the New Jersey Devils Interested in Teemu Selanne Again?
It’s no secret that Anaheim Duck’s forward Teemu Selanne may find himself in some new digs by the time the NHL’s deadline rolls around. But, it may come as a surprise that the New Jersey Devils are being suggested as a possible destination for the Finnish Flash.
Don’t get too excited because it’s not happening.
Everyone’s favorite anonymous hockey blogger alluded to the 41 year-old as a possible target for the Devils in a post earlier today…
“Selanne?
This may be the season. The Hawks, Flyers, Devils, Wings, Kings, and Canucks are all interested in Teemu for the playoff run. The choice is Teemu’s but for the first time in the history of Selanne rumors people are saying he may actually be considering the move. LA of course would be a breeze for Teemu, but the Ducks would have to believe they had no shot at the playoffs before such a deal was struck.”

Folks this is a pipe dream and not only that, it makes ZERO sense for the Devils other than he plays right wing. New Jersey has plenty up offensive power up front. If Lou Lamoriello does anything at the deadline it will be to shore up the defense and if he makes a deal with the Ducks it will be for power play specialist, Lubomir Visnovsky.
Plus as you may, or may not remember…The Devils tried to send Scott Gomez to San Jose for Selanne in 2002-03 but the deal was nixed by the famous Finn at the last minute. That worked out well for New Jersey as they took home their third Stanley Cup that season.
Be prepared for more of these silly rumors as the deadline creeps closer. Don’t you love this time of the year?
