Payton picks Packers to win Super Bowl
During his time as the Saints’ head coach, Sean Payton has gotten notoriety for his daring playcalling and light-em-up offensive schemes that have made the Saints one of the best offenses in league history.
However, during Super Bowl week he’s getting attention for something totally different. He has been an analyst on ESPN for their Super Bowl week coverage due to the fact that his Super Bowl recollections are the freshest. While the majority of the time he has been on air has been spent breaking down the game and talking about what it’s like on and off the field during Super Bowl week, he made a prediction for the game’s outcome recently.
Payton predicted the Packers to win the game by the score of 34-20 on Friday. His officially reasoning was that “Aaron Rodgers has the time to throw and will spread out the Steelers’ defense.” Although the Packers are a sexy pick for the game, it’s interesting to see Payton step out of his role as coach and play the role of prognosticator. His Packers’ pick could just be him sticking with the NFC brotherhood, but he could also just really like the Packers’ high-powered offense and see similarities between their up-and-coming team against a juggernaut, much like last year’s Super Bowl matchup.
It’s great to see Saints’ players and coaches finally getting some limelight, and Saints fans should hope this is just the start of a long trend of Saints personnel making national appearances.
