The New Orleans Saints were cleared of the alleged wiretapping after Louisiana State Police found no evidence of any wiretapping in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. Furthermore, Saints’ general manager Mickey Loomis was also cleared of wiretapping allegations as the police did not find any evidence of illegal activity.
I applaud Saints’ owner Tom Benson for the way he handled the entire situation. Benson and the Saints organization denied the allegation since they came about in April, but they were very cooperative with the FBI the entire way. Benson even hired the firm of former FBI director Louis Freeh to conduct their own investigation. Benson and the Saints clearly had nothing to hide and they were clearly telling the truth since nothing came up.
With the wiretapping allegations behind them I think the Saints’ image is on the mend. People will probably forever talk about the bounty gate scandal, but I for one am over it and it is exhausting at this point to even talk about it. Despite all of the turmoil this offseason the Saints have not let any of that distract them and have done a great job assembling their roster.
If I were opposing NFL teams I would really be watching out for the Saints this season. How can a team that had such a tumultuous season stay so focused through it all? The Saints have Super Bowl aspirations this season and it would be great validation for the Saints to get there. If the Saints display the same kind of focus they did during this offseason than a Super Bowl is definitely in reach. The Saints will be a force to be reckoned with this season and everyone else had better watch out.
