Dan Graziano has been running a series on his NFC East blog in which he ranks several different aspects of the four teams in the division. He’s done wide receiver, best left tackle, and also recently did a piece naming each team’s most underrated player.

He calls Kevin Boss that player for the Giants.

“Kevin Boss, TE: Boss gained attention during the Giants’ Super Bowl run as a dependable replacement for the flaky Jeremy Shockey after Shockey went down with an injury. Because of the emergence of the Giants’ wide receivers over the past few years, he hasn’t factored into the offense as a pass-catcher as much as some may have liked. But he’s there when Eli Manning needs him, and his more important role is as a blocker. The Giants have some of the best pass-protection numbers in the league, and Boss is a key to that.”

I couldn’t agree more, and I wish the Giants would utilize him in the offense more. While he did have a couple drops last season, his hands are relatively reliable and he is a big target at 6’6” (some think he could be 6’7” with cleats on).
