Chad Jones, New York Giants 3rd Round Pick in 2010, Talks About His Recovery From Car Crash
The New York Giants selected Chad Jones from the LSU Tigers in the third round of the 2010 NFL Draft, hoping he would add depth to a terrific unit with the addition of Antrel Rolle and Deon Grant via free agency.
A car crash, which happened a year ago tomorrow, nearly claimed his life and severely injured his leg to the point where he didn’t think he would ever play sports again.
He’s talked about giving up football to play baseball, a safer sport, as he was a star baseball player at LSU. He talks about his life since the accident in an interview with ESPN.
Jones seems to have a passion to returning to football now more than ever. He is running again and concentrating on his summer football camp he has coming up.
He won’t be able to return to the Giants until 2012 at the earliest, but he hopes by this time next year he will be training with the team.
“It’s never taken me six months to do anything, not one single thing,” said Jones. “It took me six months just to basically walk. It took me 30 minutes to take three steps when I first started rehab in the hospital. It was excruciating pain just even standing up and letting that blood flow again through my leg.”
“I am definitely about 70 percent better,” Jones added. “There was talk of me not even being able to walk again and now I am actually jogging. I’ve been through a long journey.”
