The New York Giants just finished winning a Super Bowl, so you can count on assistant coaches being poached. Mike Sullivan was the first, getting hired by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Sullivan will become the offensive coordinator for new head coach Greg Schiano. The Bucs fired Raheem Morris after a sub par 4-12 season, and this hire may be what Tampa Bay needs to dispel some of the questions surrounding the Schiano hire.

Schiano, the former Rutgers head coach, has very little NFL experience. His only time in the NFL came as a defensive assistant for the Bears for two years, and then one year as their defensive backs coach.

Sullivan will be a popular hire considering the work he has done with Eli Manning. After spending six years as the Giants wide receivers coach, he spent the last two as Eli’s coach.

Eli has seen two of the better years of his career under Sullivan’s tutelage. Although he had 25 interceptions in 2010, Eli did post the highest two touchdown totals of his career the past two seasons and nearly hit the 5,000 yard mark in 2011.

Sullivan is a big loss for the Giants.
