The New York Giants have added another offensive lineman to help improve on a unit that was very average in 2011. Former Seattle Seahawks—and for one year Washington Redskins—offensive tackle Sean Locklear has signed a contract to play for the Giants.

Seattle made Locklear a third round pick in the 2004 NFL Draft. He played with them for seven seasons, including starting every single game at right tackle during the 2005 season, in which Seattle played in the Super Bowl.

He was a key component on an offensive line that helped Shaun Alexander rush for 1,880 yards that season. Locklear expressed how excited he was in a statement through the team.

“It’s exciting. I was on the other end of two games against the Giants last year, followed them pretty well in their run to the Super Bowl. But, actually, when I got the call I was kind of excited about the chance to actually play in New York and who doesn’t want to play with the team who just got done winning the Super Bowl? My thing is to just get in here and start fresh, start learning again and try to help this team get back to where they want to go.”

The Giants have a hole to fill at right tackle, and Locklear should compete for that spot. He started four games for the Redskins in 2011, three at left tackle, but says he prefers to play on the right said where he feels more comfortable.

“I prefer right. That’s the position I played the most. But, you know, I can play both. I’m willing to play both, wherever it fits.

With the addition of Locklear and hopefully Keith Rivers (by tomorrow, reportedly), it looks like the Giants are taking care of more and more needs prior to draft day.
