Remember when Osi Umenyiora promised New York Giants fans a quiet offseason after the Super Bowl victory? Man, does that seem like a life time ago.

Osi has already made it clear he wants a new deal, in fact he’s been whining for two years now. After the Super Bowl he indicated that he was both happy he remained a Giant after his mini hold out last year, and also (falsely) proclaimed he would keep his mouth shut.

Now he seemed to indicate in a radio interview today that he would rather play out the final year of his deal than sign any short term extension.

Osi made it sound like he'd rather play out his final year with the Giants than agree to a short-term extension at any point. #NYG

When asked about a possible trade, Osi seemed to indicate the Giants should act fast. “If they’re going to do something, now would be the time to do it.”

Osi appears to be flip flopping more than John Kerry at this point, considering he told reporters earlier this month he is not seeking out a trade.

“It would be a wonderful thing to do to start your career with one team and finish it with one team. I would love to do it.”

Osi also told reporters today that he does not expect to be traded this weekend. We’ll see.

Hank Gola, who just spoke to Osi at an NFL/Play 60 event in NYC, tells me Umenyiora does NOT expect to be traded this weekend. #NYG

Another tweet from Vacchiano contained a quote from Osi, saying “Over the last couple of years I always came back and I’ve always done the right thing for the Giants. At some point you have to do the right thing for yourself.”

When talking about his desires, Osi let them known when he mentioned Robert Mathis‘ four-year, $36 million deal with the Indianapolis Colts and Trent Cole‘s four-year, $48 million deal wth the Philadelphia Eagles.

Not only does he believe he deserves a deal like this, but he feels he can still play at a very high level. Given his production last season, I don’t have a problem with that statement.

However, he’s dreaming if he thinks he’s getting that kind of money from the Giants. It seems as if Osi is on his way out, whether by trade this weekend or in the off season of 2013 is the real question.
