The New York Jets had their own destiny in front of their faces. All they had to was take it.

Instead, they gave it away.

The New England Patriots were far from perfect, especially in the first half, but the Jets were too keen on giving the game away for it to matter.

Missed field goals, dropped passes, wild throws, blown coverages, fumbled punts. You name it, the Jets did it. All three phases of the game, the Jets were inconsistent and subpar at best.

A quick refresher on those keys to the game illustrates it pretty well.

Dare the Patriots to run the ball? Nope. The Jets could not stop the Brady bunch and their good run defense didn’t matter whatsoever.

Control the clock and win the time of possession? Nope. The Patriots held the ball for over 30 minutes, but just barely. But the Jets did not do themselves any favors and mishandled the clock.

Limit the penalties and turnovers? Yikes. Not even close. They lost the turnover battle and lost the game, badly.

The Jets now have a rough road back to the postseason, as they can rule out the AFC East championship and have to fight for a wild card spot now.

At 5-4 on the season, the Jets have to get their mojo back, before it’s too late.
