Jeremy Lin: Is he for real?

Jeremy Lin. The new sensation. Or the new Linsation. Whenever the media keeps criticizing, he keeps performing. When they said he hadn’t beat anyone special, he drops 38 points vs Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers. Jeremy Lin has effectively built his legend over the past week for the New York Knicks.

Now, in middle of all this Linsanity, the New York Knicks have clawed their way back into the NBA playoff race, slowly catching up to the injury derailed Milwaukee Bucks. All it took was an undrafted point guard from Harvard, who everybody said was too small, wasn’t a good shooter, wasn’t someone they could imagine on their roster. After being cut by two teams, and nearly being cut by the New York Knicks last Saturday, Jeremy Lin has taken everyone by surprise. After averaging 25 points and 8 assists a game in his first three starts, albeit against not the greatest of NBA teams, Lin got his first test against the Los Angeles Lakers. He responded, by putting up 38 points on 13-23 shooting, 7 assists, and 4 rebounds. He out dueled the mighty Kobe Bryant, who had 34 points on 11-29 from the field.

There is no doubt in everyone’s mind that Lin can play. There were people saying he would drop off against the Lakers, but he had a big showing in Madison Square Garden on national TV, the biggest stage he’s probably ever played on. All of a sudden, Knicks fans are huddling together, there’s actually something to do in New York after watching the Giants win the Super Bowl. Before Lin, the Knicks season was looking downright awful. They had lost 11 of 13, Carmelo Anthony is injured and is sitting out for at least 1-2 weeks, and Amare Stoudemare had a death in the family to which we all give him the utmost sympathy for. The Knicks offense was lagging, they had struggling point guard play with Toney Douglas not finding his shot, and Iman Shumpert more of a 2-guard than a point.

This was exactly something the NBA needed. With the talks of big market and small market teams, a big market team was falling off the chart. Who would have ever thought that they would get help from the most unlikely player ever? Who would have thought that Jeremy Lin would be playing this amazing? This is a player who according to rumors, is living with his brother in a small New York apartment. This is what everyone wishes for and what everyone wants to see. This is the story of Jeremy Lin, who for now, has amazed, dazzled, and inspired everyone. He’s the talk of the NBA right now, and as it looks,  he’s not going anywhere. The world is yours right now, Mr. Jeremy Lin.
