New York Mets Land Three Prospects On MLB.com’s Top 100
Most of the offseason for the New York Mets has been bad news or boring news. Thankfully MLB.com gave us a little break from that when they listed three New York Mets prospects in their Top 100 list. Right-handed pitchers Zack Wheeler (28), Matt Harvey (38) and Jeurys Familia (90), to the surprise of nobody, graced the list with their presence. I was a little bit surprised that Wilmer Flores did not make the list, but he hasn’t quite put up the numbers to match his potential just yet. Perhaps he’ll start to do that this season. Anyway it is exciting to think about the trio of starting pitchers eventually working in the New York Mets rotation in the next couple of years. As a matter of fact, MLB.com estimates that Jeurys Familia and Matt Harvey will arrive in Queens this season while Zack Wheeler follows them in 2013. I’m keeping my fingers crossed. This crop of arms is certainly exciting, but I would like to see the New York Mets acquire more pieces for the future. We all know that pitching prospects have a way of fizzling out. Sometimes if you’re lucky you’ll see your prized arms produce out of the bullpen while you’re still left scrambling for starting pitching. The more young chips the New York Mets can collect, the better the chance of them churning out some productive Major Leaguers.
