The New York Mets win a series in Colorado
The New York Mets just finished a three game series in Colorado over the weekend. They took two out of three games. They got blown out in the first game and then came back with two straight wins. How did they do it and what were the main reasons for it. I will take a look here at what happened in this series to allow the Mets to take the series. The Mets lost 18-9 on Friday night, there pitching was torched. Chris Schwinden made his first start of the season and was not good. Manny Acosta also struggled. Ramon Ramirez was not good either. The Mets offense in this game though was good. It was kind of lost in the game but Scott Hairston hit for the cycle. He had four hits and four RBI. Ruben Tejada had four hits, Lucas Duda had two hits and two RBI and Mike Nickeas had two hits and an RBI. The pitching was terrible in this game but the Mets offense was good. The Mets on Saturday got a good start out of Dillon Gee and some length which really helped. The pitching was killed on Friday night and needed a good start and some rest for their bullpen. Gee pitched seven innings giving up three earned runs. Tejada, Daniel Murphy and David Wright each had three hits. Duda had two hits and four RBI. The offense once again was pretty good. The Mets on Sunday got another good start, this time from Johan Santana. The bullpen was a mixed bag with some good and some bad. Jon Rauch, Frank Francisco and Tim Byrdak didn’t pitch well. Kirk Nieuwenhuis, Tejada and Ike Davis each had three hits. Murphy, Wright and Hairston each had two hits. The Mets offense once again was good in this game. The reason the Mets were able to win this series is because unlike the first game the starting pitching was really good. The Mets offense also played great in all three games and provided enough offense for the bullpen to hold the leads. The bullpen wasn’t great but they were able to get the job done. The Mets starting pitching is what is going to make or break them, most teams that is the case but especially the Mets who have no expectations. If they continue to pitch well they will be in games and have a chance to win more then was expected.
