New York Mets Need To Take Game Two Against Arizona Diamondbacks
The New York Mets are now on a four-game losing streak. They started this week at 13-9, and now are at .500, and looking like they could get worse. They got swept by the Houston Astros, who they were expected to at least take two from, maybe even sweep. They lost the first game against the Arizona Diamondbacks last night, and now they need to start turning it around. While this team isn’t the greatest team, it is still a good team, and they need to come together today.
Today’s starting pitching matchup will feature Patrick Corbin against Johan Santana. Except for one bad outing, Santana has pitched brilliantly for the New York Mets this year. He has made five starts, and has a record of 0-2, even though the team won three of his starts. Why does he have no wins? The New York Mets have had a problem giving him run support. Actually, that’s an understatement. In all but one of his starts, the team scored no runs while he was still in the game. In the one start they scored while he was in, they scored four runs but the bullpen blew it. Therefore he is stuck with an 0-2 record with an earned run average of 2.25. Against the Diamondbacks, Santana is 2-0 with a 0.76 earned run average.
Patrick Corbin, on the other hand, is 1-0 with a 4.76 earned run average this season. He made his major league debut on Monday against the Miami Marlins. He went 5.2 innings, giving up eight hits, three runs, all earned, and three walks.
The New York Mets need to capitalize on this. They need to hit the rookie hard early on and give Santana some run support. They need to then hold that lead when it gets to the bullpen. They need to win this game and right the ship. They need to start getting wins again.
