Jim Bowden Has Kind Words for New York Yankees Prospects

The New York Yankees are always in the news regardless of the time of year, but with MLB’s trade deadline approaching they have even more reason to be on people’s minds.  The media always finds a way to link the top names on the market to the New York Yankees and even when the media gets the names wrong, the Yankees often find a way to add a big name at the deadline anyway.  Aside from some links to the New York Mets’ Carlos Beltran and the Colorado Rockies’ Ubaldo Jimenez, the New York Yankees have been in more of a “looming” or “lurking” position as opposed to the aggressive buyer that we perceive them to be.  Anticipating a deadline splash, Jim Bowden named seven prospects that selling teams are likely to be interested in as they scout the New York Yankees’ system in preparation for a trade.  Believe it or not, his words are very positive.

1.  Dellin Betances – Bowden thinks that with his size and stuff, Betances should be nearly untouchable.

2.  Manny Banuelos – The word “untouchable” wasn’t used, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Bowden felt the same way about Banuelos.

3.  Jesus Montero – Bowden isn’t concerned with Montero’s struggles at the dish this season and says that his defense is “improving”.

4.  Austin Romine – Romine is referred to as a “breakout prospect”with a developing bat.

5.  Brandon Laird – “Comes with good pitch recognition and sweet-spot contact”.  Makes him sound pretty good, huh?

6.  Adam Warren – He likes his fastball.

7.  Mason Williams – Bowden recognizes that Williams is a project, but one with considerable upside.

To be fair, we already know most of the above information and Jim Bowden was mostly complimentary about all of the prospects he spoke so its not like he was specifically head over heels for the Yankees prospects.  A positive nugget is a positive nugget though and I’m happy to take it.
