Will New York Yankees Prospects Survive Trade Deadline?
With the July 31st trade deadline approaching, the New York Yankees figure to be putting some wheels into motion in their attempt to acquire some talent that will help them succeed through October and into November. Even though some New York Yankees prospects are hurt or struggling, there is still plenty of talent to entice opposing teams to trade away their vets. This could very well be the last time I write about some of these guys as New York Yankees prospects. Let’s check out what some of the top guys have done this week.
Last Week – .288 BA, .757 OPS, 21 BB/65 K
This Week – .279 BA, .747 OPS, 25 BB/73 K
Still waiting. At least Jim Bowden acknowledged that Jesus Montero’s defense is improving.
Last Week – 9 HR, 29 BB/71 K, .756 OPS
This Week – 9 HR, 30 BB/81 K, ..718 OPS
Gary Sanchez has hit another icy patch. No big deal though.
Last Week – 75.2 IP, 2.62 ERA, 86 K/40 BB
This Week – 84.1 IP, 3.20 ERA, 95 K/48 BB
A couple of rough outings pushed Dellin Betances’ ERA north of 3.00, but opponents are still only batting .199 against him. If he ever gets his command under control…look out.
Last Week – 79 IP, 3.53 ERA, 80 K/40 BB
This Week – 89 IP, 3.74 ERA, 89 K/49 BB
After a few starts in which it looked like Manny Banuelos was getting his walks under control, he reverted to his nibbling ways. The good news is that he’s only allowed six home runs up to this point.
Last Week – 15 XBH, 24 BB/35 K, .738 OPS
This Week – 16 XBH, 26 BB/43 K, .746 OPS
Austin Romine just keeps plugging along. Nothing spectacular, but you have to be happy with the steady progress.
Last Week – 99.2 IP, 3.97 ERA, 77 K/40 BB
This Week – 104.2 IP, 3.78 ERA, 85 K/40 BB
I love what Brett Marshall is doing this year. The walks will come down in time and he is already showing the ability to keep the ball on the ground (1.74 GO/AO) and in the park (five HR allowed).
Last Week – .293 BA, 36 XBH, .776 OPS
This Week – .287 BA, 36 XBH, .759 OPS
Just keep working.
Others of Note
Corban Joseph has 40 XBH at Double-A Trenton. He could be developing into a very valuable piece for the organization…David Adams continues his rehab assignment in the Gulf Coast League…Mason Williams (.348/.385/.500) continues to tear up the New York-Penn League…Angelo Gumbs (.297/.366/.458) and Cito Culver (.297/.369/.377) are also playing solid ball alongside Williams…Adam Warren (3.26 ERA) and D.J. Mitchell (3.12 ERA) continue to pitch well at Triple-A while Ivan Nova (16 IP 18 K/2 BB) has not let his demotion affect his performance…Jose Quintana has 62 K in 60 IP at High-A Tampa…Rob Segedin has struggled at High-A Tampa, but is still batting .293 on the season overall…After a slow start to his professional career, Dante Bichette Jr. went nuts and is currently OPS’ing .932 with more walks (22) than strikeouts (18)…Justin James, the New York Yankees’ 2011 13th rounder is a raw, but toolsy outfielder with a 6’5″ 230 lb frame. I’ll be keeping an eye on him.
