BREAKING-Buccaneers cut RB Derrick Ward
In 2007, Derrick Ward was a member of the New York Giants backfield which upset the unbeaten New England Patriots, along with Brandon Jacobs and Ahmad Bradshaw. At the conclusion of the 2008 season, Derrick Ward was a free agent and signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and today he finds himself out of work as the Buccaneers cut him this afternoon in the first round of cuts.
Derrick Ward did precious little last season with the Buccaneers, rushing for 409 yards in 14 games. He scored in week 1 and never saw the endzone for the rest of the season. This preseason Buccaneers head coach Raheem Morris called Ward out, saying he was out of shape, he had a lackluster three games running the football this preseason, rushing for less than 2 yards per carry in his limited action.
Ward blamed the field conditions in the Buccaneers first preseason game, as it was played in a monsoon, but failed to deliver against the Chiefs, after proclaiming in Joe Namath-esque fashion he was going to have a huge game.
The rapid assent of 2nd year running back Kareem Huggins out of Hofstra and his impressive running ability, made Ward and his attitude expendable in Tampa. Of course for you fantasy football players, Huggins is someone you might want to keep and eye on as the Buccaneers starter, Carnell Williams is rolling on two reconstructed knees, and is only one hit away from Huggins toting the rock for the Buccaneers.

But, for a brief moment in 2004, after signing former Eagle Duce Staley was the focal point. Long story short, Bettis would bully his way into the end zone after Staley would carry them down the field. Hard to imagine, but Bettis at one point was receiving boos in Pittsburgh. Read More
