Steelers Patriots start to announce cuts
With the official deadline for NFL teams to get their rosters to 53 players about 34 hours away, the Pittsburgh Steelers and the New England Patriots are wasting no time announcing some cuts. The Pittsburgh Steelers have announced that they have released OC Justin Hartwig and OG Kraig Urbik. The announcement that Justin Hartwig, a 9 year veteran was released is not much of a surprise given that rookie Maurkice Pouncey from the University of Florida beat him out in training camp and was named the starter over a week ago. (EDIT- the inital report I received about Hartwig being released was incorrect, he’s been given permission to seek a trade, which means he’ll likely not be traded if teams know he’s going to be released)
The New England Patriots have announced that they have released 10 year veteran DT Damione Lewis. Damione Lewis was the 12th player selected in the first round of the 2001 draft by the St. Louis Rams. He has recorded 245 career tackles and 22.5 sacks. He played five seasons with the Rams and the last 4 seasons with the Carolina Panthers. He was signed as a free agent by the New England Patriots prior to the start of this season.
