Bit of a shocker, Jets release FB Tony Richardson

In a bit of a shock, very much so even after Head Coach Rex Ryan said T-Rich is a part of this team, and after the whole Hardknocks debate of whether he or Laveranues Coles would be cut, which as you saw on HBO this past Wednesday, Coles being cut, the Jets today did indeed release Veteran FB Tony Richardson, less then a day after the Jets announced their 53 man roster, that included the Aging FB. Tony Richardson is well respected through-out the whole NFL and his release sent shock waves through the twitter universe and through out the Jets organization. Judging solely on twitter, many Jets fans, including myself are NOT happy, to say the least after hearing of the news, earlier this evening. Damien Woody tweeted the following statement, @damienwoody : “Shout out to Tony Richardson….one of the classiest dudes ever! U will be missed!!!” That’s from one of the more respected veterans in the Jets locker room.

Then there comes the report that the Jets may be able to resign Tony Richardson AFTER week one of the regular season, much like the Jets supposedly plan to do with WR Laveranues Coles. The reason for that is after week one, the players salaries are NOT guaranteed, meaning they  can be cut at any time through out the season, with out being paid fully, that being said, no reports from the Jets have come out yet denying or confirming the report.

This leaves Rookie FB John ” The Terminator” Connor as the lone back on the roster, Rex and the whole team has had nothing but high praise for the hard hitting, quiet rookie. Just look back on the preseason hit in the Carolina game on special teams if you want to see how hard he can hit. Back in training camp, the Terminator blew up LB Calvin Pace on a run outside and knocked the 6’4 265 LB off his feet and into the turf, as you could probably imagine, that got the attention of Rex, and the rest of the team. It wont be all fun and game for John, he has HUGE shoes to fill in place of Tony Richardson, I mean all Richardson does is pave the way for 1000 yard rushers year after year. I for one am a bit skeptical of Connors ability RIGHT now, which leads me to question the move in just that aspect, never mind the leadership Richardson brought to the team.

In this case, I guess we just have to trust Mr. Tannenbaum and see what we have in Connor, I for one will hold a short leash and I know many Jet fans will also, that being said, its now your turn Terminator,  Block wisely.
