Did Philadelphia Eagles QB Kevin Kolb just screw up the Eagles quarterback plans moving forward? Kevin Kolb got the start under center yesterday for the Philadelphia Eagles with Michael Vick still nursing injured ribs. Vick was named the Eagles third or emergency quarterback in yesterdays game against the Atlanta Falcons.
Given the play of Kevin Kolb in previous Eagles games this season, Kolb was expected simply to manage the game against the Falcons and try to escape with a victory. Instead, Kolb took the game over and played a spectacular game. Kolb threw three touchdowns, passed for 326 yards and ended the afternoon with a 133.6 passer rating. And you thought there was a quarterback controversy in Philadelphia before.
It does remain to be seen if Michael Vick will be healthy enough to start this week against the Tennessee Titans, and if Vick is healthy, IF he’ll be named the starter again.
There does not appear to be any animosity on the surface between Vick and Kolb, but you have to know that each one of them wants to be the starting quarterback. Given the play of Kolb in the Eagles preseason and early on in the season, I thought that Michael Vick game the team the best opportunity to win. However, with his performance yesterday, Kolb now creates a serious dilemma for head coach Andy Reid when both of the quarterbacks are healthy.
There is some speculation that one of the two quarterbacks could be traded before the trade deadline of tomorrow. Sources have said this morning that neither quarterback will be moved, but NFL teams lie. It would not surprise me to see Kolb moved, and if he is, he certainly held one hell of an audition yesterday.
